The Guardian People

The task of the Guardian People is to look after time for all peoples. Humans always rush around, claiming they do not have enough time, but no one thinks of guarding it. The Guardians do this for us.

The Guardian People live in a parallel world to our own. In other words, they inhabit the same places we do, but we Humans cannot see them because it is not easy to see the unexpected. They can, however, see us. Sometimes they walk right through us. We do not know when this happens, but if you ever feel a strange feeling that you have no explanation for, it might be that one of the Guardian People has walked through you.

The Guardian People are a quiet, hard working, respectful people. They place great importance on education. They continue their studies as they grow up and marry and have children. Then, those who have studied hard are Harvested and become Middlers. This means they travel far away and spend many years learning with the Middler Sages. In the mean time, the children are brought up by their grandparents. In time, the Middlers return home. By then, their children will have children of their own. Thus, the returned Middlers will bring up their grandchildren while their children go away to become Middlers.

From the returned Middlers, the Guardians are chosen. These are the people who protect time for us all. There is a Guardian in every region of the world.

Each Guardian carries a staff, the source of much magical power. This power is used sparingly, for Guardians believe that it is better not to use magic if possible. They wear full length tunics under long outer coats. Some of the Guardians decorate their coats with ethnic decoration to denote their own region. Grown-up Guardian People are smaller than humans, usually coming up to about the same height as our shoulders.

The children, both girls and boys, wear short tunics over long cream-coloured trousers. In the summer, these tunics are short sleeved. The boys tend to wear neutral colours, cream or grey, while the girls wear coloured tunics, sometime with patterns. The boys wear heavy, leather belts at their waists.
