The main Guardian characters in The Time Wreccas
Old Father Tim - is the Old Father of the Guardians and also the Guardian People. He is a majestic figure. Some see him as rather frightening, yet if they look into his eyes, they can see that he is a gentle man. However, his eyes can turn to steel if he needs to be strong. His nose is slightly bulbous. His outer coat has a hint of sapphire and starlight. His short beard and collar-length hair are more silver than white. He lives in a thatched cottage in Greenwich Park with his grandson.
Tid Mossel - is Old Father Tim’s grandson. He is called the Old Father Grandson. It is expected that one day he will become the Old Father, but this is not certain, just an expectation if Tid studies hard and becomes a strong leader. He lives with his grandfather.
Wakaa - is a very stern looking Guardian from the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. If Old Father Tim had a second-in-command, he would be it. Wakaa is the Guardian expert in ancient magic.
The Greenwich Guardian - is the Guardian who looks after Greenwich. Being the centre of the Time World, the town needs its own Guardian. Her real name is Grenya Brownal and she is the younger sister of Bryn. The Greenwich Guardian lives at the Hither House. She is in her middle years and has waist-length, red, curling hair.
Vremya - is the oldest Guardian and comes from the Ural Mountains of Russia. He always looks as if he is smiling, even when he is not. He is gentle, kind and a little hard of hearing. Vremya is an expert on Guardian history.
Seegan - is the Guardian from Guangdong in China. He has an ornate and brightly coloured dragon on his coat. He is the Guardian expert in calculations.
Zeit - is the Guardian from Neidersachsen in Germany. He is younger than most Guardians and inclined to say the wrong thing. Occasionally, he appears to be disrespectful, although he does not mean to be. Zeit runs the Reform School for Guardian boys who have forgotten where their loyalties lie and have turned wayward. He is dedicated to helping these boys as well as being the Guardian authority on Guardian law.
Bryn Brownal - is the Park Elder. He is The Greenwich Guardian’s older brother. He lives in a cottage in the park with his wife, Lycian. Bryn is a totally dependable, good-hearted, hearty man. Well-behaved children like him enormously; the naughty ones fear him as he is the one they have to see when they break the park rules.
Enderell - Is a tall, elegant woman with shining dark hair. Although she wears the same clothes as the other Guardian People, they somehow look different on her, draping stylishly over her gently curved body and swishing attractively as she walks. From her waist a tiny gold timepiece sways at the end of a long, delicate chain. Her dark eyes reveal calm serenity. Tid likes her better than any other grown-up, apart from his grandfather. Enderell sits with him when Old Father Tim has to go out, but her job is working at the Hither House. She organises the food kitchen and the herb garden, being an expert on healing herbs and potions.
Sheldon Croe - Sheldon Croe is a tall, angular youth with beady, bird-like eyes. He was never a popular boy because his only way of playing was to bully and intimidate others. Other children soon learned to leave him alone and thus Sheldon became a solitary figure. His father was a bully who left home suddenly to ‘seek his fortune’. Sheldon has never heard from him since. His mother disappeared while Sheldon was still young. He now lives with his Grandmother in the park. Sheldon yearns to be respected, but does not know how to behave in order to achieve this. He is fascinated by the Wreccas and their way of life.
Joss Harkel - is the Greenwich Guardian’s assistant. He is a dark, good looking lad in his late teens.
Ma Croe - is Sheldon’s grandmother. She is a kind but weak woman, who was dominated by her bullying son before he left home, and is now treated the same by her grandson. She, like her son, was never Harvested.
The Loms - Ma and Pa Lom live in the park. Their son, Conrad, is a friend of Joss and their daughter, Pippa, was in the same class as Sheldon.
Special Guardian places in The Time Wreccas
THE HITHER HOUSE - is where Guardians talk over important matters, but anyone can go there if they have need. Under normal conditions, it cannot be seen, but if you go there, it will appear as if a mist has evaporated before your eyes. It is nestled among Human dwellings and has crooked walls, sleepy windows, worn old steps and a cracked door that is usually swinging open. Inside is completely different. The house is many times bigger on the inside than it appears to be on the outside. The hall has large marble pillars that hold up the ornate, high ceiling. To one side, in front of the fire, there is a table that Enderell keeps laden with food for visitors who constantly arrive. The Greenwich Guardian has her own private apartment there. Joss and Enderell also live there.
THE LINE - is the most sacred of places for the Guardians. It is where the Timepiece stands and where the Guardians meet when they have a Gathering.
THE TIME PIECE - is the heartbeat of time. It stands at the line. Old Father Tim has made the new Timepiece that will replace it. It looks like an ornate grandfather clock. Intricate patterns have been created with different coloured woods down the sides. At the top there are delicate snowflake shapes that flicker with a hint of sparkle. Stars surround the face and seem to be constantly moving, although they are actually quite still. The clock face is as deep and mysterious as the night sky. Looking into it, you would feel that you were seeing far into time itself.
